New US Ambassador Pays Courtesy Call On Minister Of Petroleum

The United States Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Robert Porter Jackson paid a courtesy call on the Petroleum Minister, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah in his office at the Ministry. The purpose of his visit was to formally introduce himself to the Minister and to communicate to the Hon Minister the readiness of the United States of America to support Ghana’s energy sector. 

Welcoming the Ambassador, the Hon. Minister thanked him for the visit and acknowledged the United States for their commitment to Ghana. Hon Buah also emphasised on significant roles US companies are playing in Ghana’s energy sector. “It is important to note that companies such has Hess, General Electric, Anadarko and all the other oil companies have made significant contributions to make our sector get to where we are today. “That’s why as a Government, we are working assiduously to develop the sector” he added.

Hon Buah highlighted on the new Petroleum Exploration and Production (E&P) Bill, 2014. According to the Minister, the Bill will ensure greater transparency and prudent management of Ghana’s oil and gas resource.

Ambassador Jackson thanked the Minister for the warm reception and commended Government of Ghana for work done so far in the sector specifically on the Gas Master Plan and also the new Exploration & Petroleum (E&P) Bill. H.E Jackson assured Hon Buah of United States support to Ghana’s energy sector.

H.E Robert Porter Jackson replaced the immediate past Ambassador Gene Cretz January this year. Ambassador Jackson was the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Cameroon from 2010 to 2013. He also served as the US Department of State’s Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for African Affairs since October 2013.

In the meeting were the Hon. Deputy Minister of Petroleum, Hon Benjamin Dagadu and delegates from both the Ministry of Petroleum and the US Embassy.
