Don't Tear Nation Apart In Desperate Bid For Power

The Superintendent Minister of the Ayeduase Circuit of the Methodist Church, the Very Reverend Emmanuel Badu-Botah, has asked politicians not to tear the nation apart in their desperate bid for power.

Exciting ethnic and religious sentiments and the resort to “divide-and-rule tactics”, in pursuit of self-serving political agenda, he said was dangerous and not the right thing to do.

Addressing a valedictory service held by the church for the immediate past Kumasi Diocesan Chairman of the Association of Methodist Men’s Fellowship, Mr. Edward Nketia-Asante, at Ayeduase, he criticized politicians for taking Ghanaians for granted.

“They scheme and deliberately set up one group against the other either along religious or ethnic lines to achieve their objectives”, he noted.

The Very Rev Badu-Botah said it was time the church loudly spoke against reckless and unacceptable conduct by any politician.

He added that it should be bold to condemn social injustices and corruption in whatever form or manifestation.

He called for more pro-poor policies and programmes by the government to ease the suffering of the people.

Mr. Nketia-Asante, who led the association for three years, spoke of the need to focus on youth development, to help them grow into responsible adults ready to take up leadership responsibilities.

He said they should be taught to be God-fearing and protected from bad peer pressure influence.

Mr. Nketia-Asante was presented with a citation for hard work and dedicated service that saw significant growth of the membership of the Fellowship under his watch.
