Businessman, 65, Shot Dead At Sawla

Unknown assailants suspected to be armed robbers last Tuesday shot dead a 65-year-old businessman at Sawla in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District in the Northern Region.

The deceased, identified as Isaac Kweku Adjei, alias Kedey, was shot dead at his residence along the Sawla-Tamale road.

The late Adjei, who was an indigene of Nkoranza in the Brong Ahafo Region but had been living in Sawla for more than 30 years, was a well-known businessman who dealt in building materials and also ran a commercial transport business.

Narration

Briefing the Daily Graphic in an interview, the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mr Francis Numadu, said about 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, three armed men entered Adjei’s house where he lived with his family and some of his workers.

The intruders, he said, ordered occupants of the house to lie down and surrender all the money on them.

Mr Numadu said Adjei’s wife and his daughter who would be having her wedding on Saturday, March 19, 2016, had gone to church as part of preparations towards the wedding when the armed men arrived in the house.

He said Adjei was also preparing to join the family at church.

He said the armed men asked Adjei’s grandson who was among those ordered to lie down to show them his grandfather’s room.

Killing

Mr Numadu said when Adjei overheard what was going on, he came out from his room but was shot by the armed men when he ventured out.

According to the District Police Commander, the armed men then bolted without taking anything from the house.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Techiman Hospital morgue, while the police have intensified investigations into the matter.
