Asantehene Leads Effort To Bring Clean And Safe Water

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, pledged to lead efforts at bringing clean and safe drinking water to the people.

He said his Charity Foundation was determined to work with other partners to ensure access to uninterrupted potable supply to prevent water-borne diseases – diarrhea, cholera and typhoid.

The Asantehene said this when he performed the ceremony to inaugurate a community water project completed at Kentinkyiren in the Atwima-Kwanwoma District.

This was jointly provided by the Foundation, Water Health Ghana (WHG) and the Local Government and Rural Development Ministry.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu said the goal was to set up water systems in various communities across the Ashanti Region, where people were having problems with safe water supply.

He encouraged the chiefs and people of Kentinkyiren to take good care of the facility - make sure it was properly maintained.

Mr. Sameer Mithal, Chief Development Officer, WHG, underlined the commitment of his company to reach out to more people in different parts of the country with good drinking water.

He said after its’ over eight years’ operation in Ghana, it was now ready to scale-up the activity.
