Churches Must Support Government In National Development - Minister

The Ebenezer Society of the Prampram Methodist Church has launched its 175th anniversary with a call on religious bodies to support government in national development.

He said the churches could assist in providing infrastructural projects such as schools and social centres for the training of the youth.

Very Rev Lawrence I.K. Amartey, the Superintendent Minister in-charge of the Prampram Methodist Church made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency when they launched their 175th anniversary celebration.

Giving a brief history of the church, he said, it was established in 1846 and it has produced two former First Ladies – Mrs Naa Morkor Busia, the wife of the first Prime Minister of Ghana, late Kofi Abrefa Busia; and Mrs Ernestina Naadu Mills, wife of the late President John Evans Atta Mills.

Very Rev Amartey said the Prampram Methodist has contributed in providing schools and social centres and that they have acquired a 20-acre land for the building of additional church, child and youth development centres for entrepreneurial training of the young people.

He said for this reason the church was raising 200,000 Ghana cedis to support the projects and appealed to well-meaning Ghanaians to come to their aid.

Very Rev Amartey said activities earmarked for the celebration include revival, children week breakfast, anniversary dinner, among others, and it would end in September, this year.
