November Polls Should Be Above Party Colours

Right Reverend Dr Daniel Sylvanus Mensah Torto, Anglican Bishop of Accra, has asked Ghanaians to approach the November 7 polls as one people with a common destiny.

He said: “Tolerance and fairness should be our bedrock during this period. We should not allow party colours to rise above our national colours.”

In his annual Easter message copied to Ghana News Agency, he said: “This season should remind us of our religious tolerance as churches and men of God.”

Bishop Torto said Easter is the time in the Church’s Calendar when Christians contemplate on the  joy of moving from the impenetrable gloom of death, as Jesus is laid in the tomb, to witnessing His radiance as He is raised from the dead.

“God shows us His ultimate gift of mercy by bringing forth life from death. Jesus has risen from the dead and conquered the darkness of sin to bring us into the light of eternal life. Easter Triduum celebrates the culmination of our Christian faith, which is celebrated over three days, that is the celebration of Jesus passion, death and resurrection.”

“Easter celebration is also a celebration of our new life as Christians, a celebration that we have died in sin, and now live in God.”

Bishop Torto asked Christians to repent and be willing to let go their bad habits in order to experience the joy and peace that the risen Lord has to them.

He said the resurrection of Jesus Christ would mean nothing to them if Christians do not repent.

“As we commence the celebration of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus, I pray that we will cultivate new habits in being nourished daily in the Word of God and the Eucharist.  As such, you will come to a deeper encounter with Jesus Christ, who pours out His abundant blessings of strength, grace and wisdom to empower you to lead your life,” he added.
