Assemblyman Advocates For Salary For Assemblymen

Mr Nicholas Sowah, the Assemblyman for Joe Mend’s Kpormotey Electoral Area in the Central Region, has appealed to the Government to pay monthly salary to assemblymen from the Consolidated Fund.

He said this was because of the heavy responsibility they shouldered in view of their positions.

Mr Sowah made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after educating the residents in Kpormotey in the Awutu East Constituency on how to prevent flooding during the raining season.

He suggested that a special fund must be created from which they could draw their salaries while advocating for Parliament to enact a law to back the fund.

Mr Sowah said because they were elected into office many residents worried the assemblymen with their personal problems, adding that; “we are non-salaried workers and we cannot meet their financial needs.”
