All Set For The Mammoth "Baamu Yadda"Demo' In Kumasi

The Ashanti Regional division of the New Patriotic Party in collaboration with Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA), Movement for Change (MFC), Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) and other opposition political parties are staging a mammoth demonstration against the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

The demonstration which is dubbed "BAAMU YADDA" is expected to drive hundreds of thousands of Ghanaians on to streets of Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, this Wednesday, the 6th April 2016.

Participants are expected to converge at State Boys Primary located by the Suame Roundabout - Abrepo Junction Highway from 6.00am. The dress code is 'RED & BLACK'.

Why join this demonstration? It is simply to show that as a Ghanaian you are concerned about the peace and stability of our nation state and you believe that validating every voter will go a long way to bring back public confidence in the electoral process.

#BeConcerned.

Join us as we:

1.      Press home the people's demand for a credible and reliable voters' register for the conduct of FREE, FAIR, TRANSPARENT and PEACEFUL ELECTIONS in November 2016. If you care about your country then you must care about this issue.

2.      To urge the Electoral Commission of Ghana to show some urgency and announce to Ghanaians its roadmap for the implementation of the recommendation by its own Panel of Experts for VOTER VALIDATION. The Panel's Report was very clear that the best way to cure the bloated voter register is by deleting the names of some 600,000 dead people, removing the tens of thousands of multiple registrations and hundreds of thousands of non-Ghanaians who got a voter's ID illegally. This is to call every person on the register to come forward to be validated and confirmed. No Ghanaian will be disenfranchised in anyway. This is not different from the compilation of a new register. If you care to vote you must care to register or, in this case, be validated. That is a principle accepted by the Constitution.

3.      It is estimated that between 1.5 million to 2 million illegal names are on the list. For a country where elections are won or lost on wafer thin margins, even having a register bloated by just 100,000 names should be a matter of concern. We don't want ghosts and non-nationals to choose our President and Parliamentarians for us, as Ghanaians.

4.      The EC must clarify and give full disclosure on the scope and nature of its contract with STL. The era of suspicion must be retired with Dr Afari-Gyan.

5.      The EC must also give the country and stakeholders full disclosure on the nature of electronic transmission it intends to use for 2016. People are genuinely worried.

6.      The EC must give full details of all the reforms it has agreed to implement to enhance the integrity of the electoral process this year.

7.      The EC must show to the country how it intends to recruit credible people with integrity as election officers and how it intends to make it all transparent and the people accountable.

In conclusion, it is important to stress that all political parties including NPP, NDC, PPP, CPP, PNC, NDP say they are for a clean, credible register and none has spoken against the VALIDATION EXERCISE. It is a non-controversial solution to a discredited register and for conducting FREE, FAIR, PEACEFUL and TRANSPARENT Elections in 2016.

All we are saying is this: "BAAMUYADDA" ("WE WON'T AGREE, "Y3N'PENE) to any shenanigans to deny the people of Ghana their right to choose their political leaders without fraud or flaws.

Thank You.

Signed
