'Banned' MP Apologizes To Queen Mother

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Atebubu-Amantin constituency, Sanja Nanja has rendered an unqualified apology to the Atebubu Traditional Council and the Queen mother of the area, Nana Akua Donyina.

"I apologise to the Queen mother…she should take me as her son and forgive me. I also apologise to the traditional council and I assure them that I will do whatever it takes to appease them. I withdraw my words..." he said.

Sanja Nanja was banned from visiting the Omanhene's Palace indefinitely by traditional authorities of Atebubu. He was also banned from attending any funeral and social events organised within the jurisdiction of Atebubu Traditional area.

This was after he insulted the Queen mother of the constituency in an interview on Accra-based radio station Pink FM.

Meanwhile, some of the youth in the constituency are refusing to forgive the MP.

One of them spoke to Peace FM in an interview and said "...the Queen mother is dear to our heart and so there is no way we are going to forgive Hon Sanja Nanja. Even if Jesus Christ asks us to forgive him; we will not..."

Violence broke last week in Atebubu after some supporters of the former DCE of the area, Sampson Owusu Boateng, and those of the Member of Parliament for the area, Sanja Nanja, were caught up in some skirmishes over Boateng’s dismissal from office.

The clashes led to the burning of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party office in Atebubu- Amantin, while some NDC youth also allegedly ransacked the home of the official bungalow of the former DCE.
