Stop Political Hypocrisy; Pretending To Be Enemies During Rallies But Friends In Private!

A Senior Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Ransford Gyampo has admonished the various political parties especially the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to stop their political hypocrisy.

He explained that the political parties are fond of publicly exhibiting hatred on political platforms to each other during rallies but rather demonstrate their friendship in their private, deceiving their supporters as if they are on each other throat.

Buttressing his point on the political hypocrisy as part of the hindrance to political tolerance, Dr. Gyampo on Okay Fm’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show said the political parties behave in public as if they are enemies, making the supporters think it is betrayal to have a healthy conversation with your political opponent.

“When you see NPP and NDC members conversing in public, it is often interpreted to mean that they have betrayed their parties but when they are in their private platform, they have a healthy and lengthy conversation; the moment that is seen, the supporters feel they have betrayed the party because they opposition should not have anything to do with the ruling party”, he indicated.

“This also undermine the political tolerance and accommodation….to meet behind the scene and make peace and speak frankly is a political hypocrisy; the political parties are friends but sometimes take Ghanaians for granted…when you meet political parties on private platform, they laugh among themselves but whenever they mount their political platforms for rallies, they speak as if they hate each other. This is political hypocrisy which will not help”, he added.

He therefore chided political parties to shun their hypocrisy by demonstrating their friendship on political platforms so their supporters and sympathizers will know that politics is about expressing diverse views and not fighting.

He stressed that these are some of things which help the survival of multi-party democracy and political tolerance and accommodation.
