Panama Expos: Kufuor's Gov't Most Corrupt In Ghana's History Ofosu Kwakye

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been challenging former President John Agyekum Kufuor to break his silence on the Panama papers that cited his son as the chief operative in a scheme controlling thousands of dollars.

The former President and his family were named among a tall list of world leaders who kept secret bank accounts through a Panamanian law firm.

The firm, Mossack Fonseca, is at the centre of huge data leak exposing the financial secrets of dozens of the world's elite. The leaked documents, known now as the Panama Papers, mentions the eldest son of former President Kufuor - John Addo Kufuor as the chief operative in a scheme controlling thousands of dollars with his mother, Theresa Kufuor as one of the known beneficiaries.

The Panama leaks showed links to 72 current or former heads of state in the data including John Addo Kufuor whose offshore company, according to the document, allegedly controlled a $75, 000 bank account for his father and the former First lady, Theresa Kufuor.

The Minister of communications Dr Edward Omane Boamah has challenged the former President to react to the issue instead of challenging President John Mahama on developments in the Volta Region.

Adding his voice to the debate, Deputy Minister of Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu said in a panel discussion on Radio Gold that “his (Kufuor) loud silence on the panama papers gives cause for serious concern…if for nothing at all the panama papers has put it beyond doubt that he presided over the most corrupt government in the history of this country…”
