Tamale Market Women Cry Over Hardship

Scores of market women in Tamale the Northern regional capital have bitterly complained about the acute hardship they are currently facing which according to them is rapidly collapsing their businesses.

Pouring out their frustrations in an interview with The Observer newspaper, the women traders blamed the John Mahama administration of mismanagement making life unbearable for them and their families.

According to them, high interest rate coupled with government’s alarming decision to strip off some benefits and aid packages to traders have made trading under this current government unattractive and not wroth venturing into.

Leader of the group, Hajia Andaratu Mahama told this paper the center is not holding any longer, and that life is becoming extremely difficult for their families.

“My children are at home because there are no jobs; I still give them pocket money, when they venture into armed robbery or cybercrime, who is to be blamed?” she asked.

“Since 2008, activities in the market have been woefully abysmal. We don’t make any sales; there is nothing in the market. The cedi is not performing. Everything is broken. We use to get credit assistance from MASLOC but now you cannot pay for the interest,” hajia bemoaned.

Hajia Andaratu also complained about the erratic power supply, the ineffective school feeding programme and the dying NHIS and therefore advised Ghanaians to vote against the NDC government.

The livid traders said it was time to change the NDC government who they said has collapsed every facet of the economy.
