Chairman Wontumi Reports Himself To Police

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has reported to the Ashanti Regional Police after the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) was asked to arrest him.

The Public Relations Officer of the police command, ASP Mohammed Yussif Tanko, who revealed this to Citi News, further indicated that Wontumi is currently assisting the Police with investigations.

Wontumi was declared wanted by the Ashanti Regional Police Command for allegedly assaulting the Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Felix Ibrahim, and a secretary to the party in that constituency, Collins Amankwa, at Krofrom in Kumasi.

The alleged assault took place on the evening of May 1 at a registration centre in front of prospective voters who had queued to register in the ongoing limited voters’ registration exercise.

Collins Amankwa and Felix Ibrahim initially lodged a complaint with the police who subsequently invited Chairman Wontumi for questioning.

Wontumi turned down invitation

The police in a statement signed by ASP Tanko however indicated that the NPP regional chairman refused to honour the invitation.

It is in this light that the Ashanti Regional CID  was instructed to have chairman Wontumi arrested to assist with investigations.

The police in their statement added that it will be in the chairman’s interest to report to the police and answer to the accusations of assault.
