Political pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance says it feels vindicated by the Supreme court ruling on the voters’ register.

LMVCA which has been demanding the fresh compilation of a new voters register because the existing database is incurably flawed said it is happy and satisfied with the ruling of the apex court of the land.

A seven-member Supreme Court panel chaired by the Chief Justice, Georgina Wood, has ordered the Electoral Commission to clean the voters register before the 2016 elections.

The ruling follows a suit filed by former PNC youth organiser Abu Ramada challenging the credibility of the 2012 voters’ register as a valid database for the November general polls.

The Supreme court ordered the EC to delete names of deceased persons, persons who registered using the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards as well as ineligible persons whose names are on the register, but also asked the commission to make provisions for those affected to register again under the law.

The Convener of the group, David Asante in a media interview after the verdict said the ruling is a good outcome for the country’s democracy.

He said given the limited time to the November,7 polls it expects the EC to hasten the process for the cleaning of the register

“The Supreme court has finally spoken on the issue of the integrity of the electoral register. And we believe this confirms our long held position on the matter that the register is incurably flawed. So we going to sit comfortably to watch the EC and how they are going to go about an interesting process. But we’re happy with the ruling of the apex court of the land,” he added.
