Jackson College Of Education, Six Others Awarded

MicJoy Advertising in collaboration with the Academic Diary Newspaper, has awarded seven private and state institutions who have contributed their quota to socio-economic development of the country. 

Speaking at the awards ceremony at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Kumasi, on 4th May, 2016, Mr. Michael Nana Ampong, the Founding President, charged leaders in the country to institute award schemes to honour the illustrious individuals; adding that it would go a long way to spur them on to do more for their society.

He maintained that failure on the part of society to reward her illustrious sons and daughters has discouraged others to contribute their part.

 He expressed disappointment at why deserving personalities are not honoured after they have made significant contributions to the nation.

He posited, “I wish our society would appreciate the contributions of the hardworking ones in our society; I have been to some institutions in the country, and I am impressed about their performances,”

At the awards ceremony, seven institutions from the Ashanti, Greater Accra and Central regions received meritorious awards.

 All the six recipients received awards under the 'Africa Quality Awards' category.

Receiving her awards, the Principal of Jackson College of Education in Kumasi Mrs. Theodosia Jackson commended Mr.  Michael Nana Ampong for the introduction of the 'African Quality Awards Scheme', aimed at appreciating the contributions of the illustrious Ghanaians.

Extolling  Jackson College of Education’s contribution to the society, Mrs. Theodosia Jackson opined that, the college has trained more than about five thousand students who could not have made it had it not been the college’s flexible mode of education where lectures are held only on weekends. This she said that, has paved way for many people to advance themselves at comfort of their homes.

 She said, her vision is to break the norm where education is becoming the preserve of the rich and people living in the cities.

The Director of the Kumasi campus of Ghana Technology University College, Mr. Yaw Ofori Amanfo, who was full of praises to the organizers, called for a paradigm shift in the teaching and learning process in the country. He observed that if stakeholders in the education sector fail to give a second thought to the curriculum and pedagogical skills of instructors in our educational system, the Universities in the country would continue to produce unskilled graduates. He said, 'it is due to poor teaching practice that is why our graduates are relying on the government for employment instead of the graduates becoming employers’.

Referring to our current state of Ghana’s education as ‘Read Memory’, Mr. Yaw Ofori Amanfo said the students must be encouraged to learn on their own rather than to ‘chew and pour’ available notes and forget after graduation.

The Ahafo Ano South District Health Director, Mr. Reuben Bedzrah urged Ghanaians to inculcate the practice of eating more fruits and to also reduce the intake of oily foods. The Secretary General of District Directors of Health National Executive Council said this would go a long way to improve life expectancy challenges facing the country.

 “God expects us to live between 70 and 80 years, and anything short of this is unnatural. The Ahafo Ano South District Health Directorate aims to provide the best health support to the people in our environment,” he assured.

Alpha Homeopathic Clinic at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region also received an award for their contributions through the use of natural applications for healings. Mr. Opambour Agyemang, Human Resource Manager of Alpha Homeopathic Clinic receiving the award, reminded Ghanaians to continue to apply natural methods of curing ailments whenever they are sick. The joyful looking Manager praised MicJoy Advertising and assured the gathering that award would rather ginger them in their endeavours.

The Principal of Ideal College, Mr. Clement Agyei Sarfo expressed no shock at the awards presented to the College. He disclosed that he was in tune with the founding President of MicJoy Advertising, Mr. Michael Nana Ampong, as far as the results of the school was concerned, adding, “if you have nothing to hide then you have to open your doors to everyone’. The Principal of Ideal College said the college has experts to guide every student to pass their exams well, and urged parents and guidance to enroll their awards at Ideal College.

Representing the District Executive of the Sekyere South, Mr. Andrews Nawil said the DCE Hon. Edward Kusi Ayarkwa is concerned with improving the socio-economic needs of his people, and would ensure their livelihood get better at all times. The District Coordinating Director said the award would not let be swollen headed positing that the district did not win the award on silver platter.

The head of Morgan International Community School Madam Phyllis Hildebrandt receiving the school’s award said the school adopts the international best standards of teaching and learning methods to make their students competitive. She said the school has crop of students who are brilliant, and could compete anywhere in the world hence the need for parents and guidance to enroll their awards.
