Tragedy struck on the Tema-Ada Highway as seven (7) people lost their lives early yesterday morning when a 33-seater bus of the Metro Mass Transit (MMT) Limited was involved in a fatal accident.
The bus, which was heading to Accra from Mepe in the Volta Region, according to eye witnesses, ran into an articulated, truck which was parked at the Tsopoli stretch of the road in the Dangbe East District of the Greater Accra Region.
The dead bodies have since been deposited at the Tema General Hospital mortuary for autopsy, whiles those who sustained various degrees of injuries were also admitted at the same hospital including Battor Hospital.
The driver of the bus who at the time of filing this report was in a critical condition has been blamed for the accident.
According to the eyewitnesses, he was driving under the influence of alcohol.
Residents of Topsoil told Today that the accident occurred at about 4:30 am.
They stated that at about 6:15 a.m., when they got to the scene, some of the injured passengers had already been sent to hospital, whiles sixteen (16) were still trapped under the vehicle.
