NCCE Director Urges Zongo Youth To Reject Violence

The Ashanti Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr. Alhassan Yakubu, has urged the youth in Zongo communities to cherish the peace and reject lawlessness.

They should refuse to be manipulated by anybody to cause trouble and confusion as the political campaign gathered momentum.

He was speaking at a public sensitization programme held to highlight the need for everybody to get their acts right to protect the peace ahead of this year’s general election.

It was organized by the Millennium Child Support Group, an NGO, as part of the “Ghana for peace” campaign, supported by Star-Ghana- a multi-donor pooled funding mechanism.

Mr. Yakubu expressed disappointment at the conduct of politicians, who continued to take advantage of the vulnerability of the youth – hide behind them to engage in mischief and violence.

He said it was important for all to ensure that their conduct was regulated by the law.

The political parties should observe the public order act by accepting to work closely with the police to maintain law and order.

Mr. Lawrence Sarpong, Deputy Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), underlined the determination of the Commission to ensure that the coming election was clean, transparent and credible.
