Pupils Cry For Zebra Crossing Signs At Kaneahie-Bubuashie Roundabout

Pupils And Teachers Of St. Joseph Anglican Primary School At Bubuashie In Accra Have Appealed To Ghana Education Service (Ges) To Impress Upon The Ministry Of Transport, National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) And Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) To Make Provision Of Road Safety Signs On The Road At The Gates Of The School Which Is Located Around The Kaneshie-Bubuashie Roundabout.

According To The Head Teacher Of St. Joseph Anglican Primary School, Ms. Rose Akufo, Who Doubles As The President Of The Head Teachers Association In The Bubuashie Circuit Of Ghana Education Service, The School Which Has A Population Of 1,654 Pupils Needs Road Signs Like Zebra Crossing At Its Gates And Traffic Wardens To Help Assist The Children To Cross The Road To The School.

The Immediate Provision Of Road Safety Signs, She Stressed, Would Go A Long Way To Prevent The School Children From Road Traffic Deaths And Injuries Which The School Has Been Experiencing Over Last Few Years.

Addressing The Gathering At The Launch Of The Child Road Safety Campaign In Accra Over The Weekend, Mrs. Akufo Noted That The Call For The Road Safety Signs Was Necessary To The Fact That Presently Five Children Of The School Have Been Involved In Serious Motor Traffic Accidents Whilst Trying To Cross The Road.

That Situation, The Head Teacher Stated, Was Adversely Affecting Teaching.

According To Her, In The Case Of Any Motor Traffic Involving The School Children, The Teachers Of The School Have To Abandon Classes To Rush The Victims To Nearby Hospitals.
