Tribal Politics Wont Be Tolerated In 2016 Polls Volta Chiefs

Chiefs in the Volta region have warned they will not tolerate tribal politics in the upcoming elections.

According to the chiefs, it is inappropriate for politicians in any democratic society to canvass for support and solidarity through tribalism and ethnicity.

Addressing a gathering of chiefs and people at Central Tongu during the visit of the NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo to the area, Togbe Atatim IV, chief of Mafi Traditional Area, said residents of the region will not vote on tribal lines in the 2016 elections.

“The Chiefs have come to the realization that in any civilized and matured society where democratic institutions and principles are respected, hardcore tribalistic tendencies and structures are frowned upon, considered conservative and thrown into oblivion.

“We the chiefs would like to unequivocally and unreservedly state that the 2016 parliamentary and presidential elections should be devoid of election characterized by tribalism and actions by dishonest politicians geared towards luring people to vote for them” he stated.

The chiefs also recounted and acknowledged projects that were undertaken by the NPP under the Kufour government and called on Akufo-Addo to do more for the region should he win the 2016 elections.
