NADMO Warns Residents Occupying Weak Structures

Mfantseman Municipal Coordinator of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Mr. Felix Quansah, has cautioned residents in areas occupying dilapidated buildings and weak roofing to rehabilitate them or desert their homes to a secure place whenever there is heavy rainstorm.

Mfantseman Municipal is one of the deprived areas in the Central Region, with many of its residents occupying mud houses.

Mr. Quansah said the caution was issued after the organisation identified many dilapidated structures in the municipality during its monitoring of areas like Saltpond, Baafikrom, Yamonsah etc.

He said three persons died last year because the mud buildings they were living in collapse in the Municipal during the rainy season.

Some parts of the municipal is annually affected by flood and storm in which scores of residents are often rendered homeless.

He thus appealed to government to support them with logistics whenever disaster occurs.
He said NADMO staff members in the Assembly have been tasked to intensity public education in flood-prone areas to mitigate the impact of flooding.
