Justice Dotse Clarification: It Is No Big Deal Ace Ankomah To Critics (AUDIO)

Justice Jones Dotse has come under intense flak hours after he tried to clarify a ruling by the Supreme Court (SC) of which he was part of the panel of Judges.

The SC ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to delete the names of those who registered with National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards as proof of identity ahead of the 2016 elections.

This ruling was followed by varied interpretations especially after the EC said it will not delete the names because the SC’s ruling did not instruct them to do so.

In an interview on Thursday, Justice Dotse said the SC was clear in its ruling and that the EC must delete the names of NHIS holders in the voters’ register. Click to read more

In reaction to Justice Dotse’s comment, a member of the NDC's legal team, Abraham Amaliba said the judge spoke like a “political commentator”.

Kwesi Pratt, Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper feels it is not right for the SC judge to speak on behalf of the other judges.

Speaking to the issue, Legal practitioner Ace ankomah says ‘it is no big deal’ for Justice Dotse to speak on the ruling.

According to him, “it is no big deal . . . if a ruling has been given and he has the chance to clarify it, why can’t he . . . It is democracy; you can say that you disagree with him . . . ”
