Ghanaians Must Take Insurance Serious Deputy Insurance Commissioner.

Deputy National Insurance Commissioner, Simon Nevor Davor has charted the need for Ghanaians to consider protecting their property before any mishap.

According to him, the commission has launched a taskforce to educate Ghanaians on the need for individuals to cover their properties.

“One thing we are doing to insure both lives and properties is that, the law under which we operate makes some particular law of insurances compulsory but of late that has not been done especially the commercial properties,” he said.

Adding that – “We have step-up our campaign for all companies to know and we have started educating building contractors and the public as well as police and fire service to check that properties are covered.”

The importance of life insurance in the lives of individuals, families and a nation can never be overestimated - The life insurance scene in Ghana is one that has a lot of room for improvement.

The penetration rate in Ghana is quite low compared to those of other countries. The hope among industry players that the increase in the country’s GDP per capita would see a corresponding increase in the life insurance penetration rate has really not yielded the necessary outcomes.

Under the auspices of the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) and the Ghana Insurance Brokers Association (GIBA), a Roundtable was held in Accra to address major issues concerning the insurance fraternity.

Speaking to journalists, Simon Nevor Davor urged all to ensure their properties well protected – “The commission is keen that more lives are covered and protected in the insurance industry.”
