Minister Criticizes Increasing Drift Towards Materialism

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr John Alexander Ackon, has criticized what he said was the increasing drift of the church towards materialism.

He said he found it deeply disturbing the situation, where some pastors openly and unashamedly resorted to all sorts of tricks to take money from the congregation.

“The trouble is that we do not know how to handle these pastors” he added.

Mr. Ackon was inaugurating the Obuasi Ministers Association, a voluntary association formed by the clergy in the mining town.

He spoke against strange bible teachings and religious doctrines and said it was time the people opened their eyes to happenings in the church.

He used the occasion to highlight the need for all to uphold religious tolerance to sustain the peace and stability of the nation.

The Regional Minister hailed the decision by the pastors to come together to promote the growth of the church and the society.

The Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, said the inauguration of the association, was a positive signal that “God is about to transform the church in Obuasi”.

He said he was convinced that it would lead the fight against deviant conduct and immorality.

It should aid everybody to re-connect with their Creator – to have fear for God and to stay away from anything evil.
The Reverend Dr. Oppong Adu-Gyamfi, General overseer of International Charismatic Church, Accra, asked his colleague pastors to concentrate on winning souls for Christ.

They should not clamor for wealth, he said, telling them that “the most important thing is how you end and not how you started”.

Apostle G.K Amoako, Senior Pastor of Covenant House Chapel, who heads the seven-member executive of the association, said they were determined to work hard to spread the gospel and promote church discipline.
