Fraud At Lands Commission Document Indicts Afotey Agbo, Dad

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo has once again been mentioned in land brouhaha after he, allegedly in a cunning and fraudulent manner took over and transferred portions of the Amrahia lands to others, knowing very well that he had no title to the said lands.

Documents chanced upon from the Ghana Lands Commission indicated that major portions of the Amrahia lands which is 'Not State Land' per Lands Commission documentation, have been registered in the name of Afotey Agbo's father, Nii Otu Akwetey IX, who held an Executive position at the Lands Commission.

According to the said documents, the lands, which were obtained in judgment in 1980 in favour of Nii Laryea Akuetteh VIII in Suit No. L326/75, were leased on March 10, 2002 from Nii Otu Akwetey IX to Joseph Nii Laryea-Agbo.

However, portions of the whole land was also stated to have been assigned on November 19, 2003 from Joseph Nii Laryea-Agbo to Lindel L. Christie and Lydia Christie whilst another portion was also leased on March 10, 2001 from Nii Otu Akwetey II to Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, the current Greater Accra Regional Minister.

The documents from the Lands Commission also revealed that there was a conveyance of portions of the land from Joseph Nii Laryea-Afotey Agbo to Lindel Lloyd Christie and some others.

This development, the Chief and Elders of Amranhia have kicked against questioning how Afotey Agbo's father, Nii Otu Akwetey IX, who was then the Chief of Katamanso, acquired the land when he was not from Amrahia.

According to chiefs their previous Chief, Nii Amoafio Tsuru III once questioned Nii Laryea Akuetteh VIII on whether he had acquired the Amrahia land from the elders, including their late chief, which was audio recorded and accepted that the land was not for him,  but for Amrahia.

But, an official search report no. O/S 3241/2012 signed by the Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission on March 21, 2012, from the Lands Commission still indicated that, the land documents are in the name of Nii Otu Akwetey IX and has now been transferred into the name of the current Greater Accra Regional Minister, Joseph Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo.

Also, records from the Lands Commission upon search revealed that in a judgment dated June 1, 2016 which was said to be in favour of Nii Otu Akwetey IX with Suit No. BL. 272/1006 has been assigned in 2003 to Joseph Nii Laryea-Agbo and again a lease date on the same search from March 10, 2001 in the name of Nii Otu Akwetey II to Joseph Nii L. Afotey-Agbo.

It also emerged that in that same document, Joseph Nii Laryea-Afotey Agbo gave out portion of the said land to Lindel Lloyd Christie and another in 2000 even at the time he had no access/title or right over the land. According to the Search Report, the said portion of land was leased to him, Nii Laryea-Afotey Agbo on March 10, 2001.

Meanwhile, the Chief and elders of Amrahia are appealing to the President to call the Lands Commission officials to order so as to put an end to all fraudulent activities that go on at the Commission.
