Bekwai Police Investigate Murder Of Woman, 64

The police in Bekwai in the Ashanti Region are investigating the suspected murder of a 64-year-old woman at Amoamo in the Bekwai municipality.

The body of Madam Akosua Bawuaah was found in the bush with a deep cut in the throat and community members suspect ritual murder.

Her remains have since been deposited at the morgue of the Bekwai Government Hospital for autopsy.

Police briefing

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Bekwai District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Edward Obeng Boateng, said Madam Bawuaah left home for the farm to plant cocoa seedlings at 9.30 a.m. last Wednesday.

He said an in-law, Akwasi Agyemang, became worried when she did not return by 4.30 p.m. as she normally did and, consequently, notified her husband, Mr Kwame Kakraba, about her unusually long stay on the farm.

ASP Boateng said Agyemang thereafter followed up to the Yaa Sasuah farming area to look for Madam Bawuaah. On the way to the farm, he saw the cocoa seedlings in a basket at a junction.

That made Agyemang search around for her, only to find her body lying in a pool of blood. He ran back home and informed her relatives.

Consequently, the case was reported to the Bekwai Police, who followed up to the spot, and on examination, found that Madam Bawuaah had a cut in the throat.

He said the police were investigating the matter and called on members of the bereaved family to assist in the investigations.

Amoamo in fear

The suspected murder of Madam Bawuaah has caused fear and panic in the community.
