One person has died after a building at the main surgical ward of the Obstetrics and Gynecology section of the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in the Western Region collapsed on Thursday night.

The patient whose identity is not immediately known, died after the building caved in and broke the ceiling while a surgery was being conducted. Three patients who were being operated upon at the time of the incident were rushed to the Kwasimintim District Hospital for medical care but unfortunately one of them passed on.

Authorities at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital who have mounted a strong defense have said the likelihood of the deceased surviving was not dependent on her transfer to the Kwasimintim District Hospital  for medical care as she was suffering from a ruptured uterus and could have still died at any of the two hospitals.
