Is WhatsApp Introducing Music Sharing?

It is used by more than a billion people worldwide to send messages, gifs and emoticons to each other, but soon Whatsapp could allow iPhone users to share music with each other too.

Rumours reported by those with access to the latest developer version of the messaging application for iOS say they have found the new feature hidden within the software.

It will allow users to share music stored on their devices with their contacts along with allowing recipients to listen to the music in the app.

They say it could also allow tracks on Apple Music to be shared using Whatsapp, but there were other reports saying the news was fake.

The messaging service, which is owned by social media giant Facebook, did not respond to requests to confirm the move from the MailOnline.

But German site Macerkopf said it had been sent screenshots of the WhatsApp 2.16.7.257 Beta that suggest the messaging app is working on a music sharing feature.

It said: ‘To our knowledge, it is currently possible to select music that is stored locally on the iPhone, as well as music from Apple Music and send.

‘A small player then appears in your addressee via which the music can be played.’

The current version of WhatsApp available on mobile devices is 2.16.6.

There are some claim WhatsApp may have introduced Apple Music integration into some early versions of the 2.16.7 Beta software for iOS but later removed it.

Andriod and Windows Phone users have been able to send audio files, including music, from their phones using the apps for some time.

However WhatsApp says on its website: ‘The iPhone can't send or save songs because of the limitations of iOS, whereas other phones can because the file system is more accessible.’

However, there are some with access to the developer software who insist that music integration will not be available on the next version of WhatsApp.
