2 Shot At Bomso

Two people are in critical condition after they were shot on Thursday night at a bakery at Bomso, a suburb of Kumasi, close to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in the Ashanti Region.

The two are in critical condition at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, following profuse bleeding after the incident, which occurred on June 30.

Margaret Oforiwaa was shot in the chest by the assailants who also rifled a bullet into the thigh of Kwame Agyei. They attacked the victims after an earlier confrontation between a worker and a gang member.

Three persons wielding guns are reported to have started shooting sporadically after they went to the shop to avenge an attack on one of their members, who had been involved in verbal exchanges with a worker at the bakery.

People at the bakery took to their heels but the armed men, numbering three, chased them, shooting two people – a a member of staff of the bakery and a customer.

According to an eyewitness, he was speaking on the phone when he heard a sound. He had thought it was that of a firecracker until he saw people fleeing from the bakery.

“When the third shot came, it was just in front of us here and one man broke into our room and gave a warning shot. He asked about money and my brother told him he had just returned from work to sleep and was not part of the workers. He entered into my mother’s room, saw a bag and just took it and removed GHS100. We were very scared,” he added.

Meanwhile police from the KNUST Division have visited the scene and investigations have commenced into the matter, Nhyira FM’s Ohemeng Tawiah reported.
