CLOGSAG To Declare Strike

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) is threatening to declare a strike if government fails to pay them a market premium.

According to them, government has paid interim premiums to other category of workers but has failed to extend the payments to their members.

They have also chastised a committee charged to work on market premiums, for recommending their exclusion from receiving market premiums.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, the Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, Isaac Bampoe-Addo insisted that they will not call off their intended strike until their demands are met.

He explained that a subcommittee formed to facilitate the smooth transition of the market premium focused only on the health and education sectors and neglected them.

“The sub-committee on a transition from entry market premium to implementing market premium made a compelling statement that in determining the skills that qualify for market premium, the subcommittee focused on health and education sectors as this formed the priority areas of government.

CLOGSAG is of the opinion that a more competent, responsible and efficient team should be put in place to undertake this exercise.” Mr. Bampoe-Addo insisted that they will lay down their tools if they are not transited by July 19, 2016.

“The interim market premium should be extended to CLOGSAG members and also the effective date should coincide with the implementation date of the single spine salary structure; that is if by July 19, 2016, CLOGSAG has not been informed about the implementation of entry market premium for its members, the national executive council has mandated the national secretariat to declare a nationwide strike,” he added.
