20 Districts Snub ICT

(NORPREP) in collaboration with Clinton Computers Systems in Tamale, the northern regional capital, was expected at the end to train over 215 participants across board. According to the Monitoring and Evaluation (M and E) officer of NORPREP, Mr Samuel Afrani, his office sent down two letters to the twenty districts and followed it with several calls. The programme, which is scheduled to start at 8.30am on Monday, due to the delay and waiting for DAs rather started somewhere around 12.00pm with only 19 participants. In his welcome address the M and E officer of NORPREP noted that workers at the various district assemblies lack computer skills and that to him does not contribute effectively to the good work at their various offices. He maintained that ICT has taken over the global village and underscored the urgent need for all Ghanaians, especially workers at the assemblies to take the study of ICT seriously to reduce poverty in the region. Mr Afrani continued that it is expected at the end of the workshop that participants would be able to work better and help alleviate poverty in the Northern Region, which according to him is the main objective of NORPREP.
