Independent survey carried out by a professor of the University of Development Studies (UDS) in May this year shows that residents of Lawra constituency in the Upper West Region will vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate instead of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate.
The incumbent NDC MP, Sampson Abu lost the parliamentary primary to Bede Zeideng who once abandoned the party and decided to rejoin it but residents say they would prefer the NPP candidate, Anthony Karbo to be their MP to the current NDC candidate.
The survey however indicated that incumbent MP who lost the primary is still very popular in the constituency and if he decides to go independent, he would clinch the seat again.
Out of 900 respondents sampled from 30 communities in the constituency 28% said they would vote for Anthony Karbo while 26% endorsed Bede Zeideng.
Interestingly, the incumbent MP, Sampson Abu who was defeated in the primary had an overwhelming 46% of the respondents still wanting him to be their MP.
The Lawra constituency which was previously part of the Nandom constituency had seen the NPP’s Ambrose Dery annexing it from the then NDC MP, Dr Benjamin Kunbour who is now the incumbent MP for Nandom and the Minister for Defence.
Intelligence also had it that the Wa East constituency in the same region is likely to fall to the NPP.
