The chiefs and people of five villages in the Akyemansa District in the Eastern Region, have demonstrated over their poor roads.
The communities are Bosovilla, Otabil, Mukyia, Sukuran and Adugyan.
Some of the placards they carried read: “Is it a road or footpath,” “The road is seriously affecting farming activities,” “President Mahama do something before November 7,” and “We are experiencing premature deaths.”
Mr Emmanuel Kwaku Obeng, the Assemblyman for Beposo and Spokesperson for the demonstrators said the deplorable nature of the roads have become a nightmare to the people.
“The people are dying, particularly pregnant women who have miscarriages on the roads and also affecting our farming activities. Drivers feel reluctant to ply their trade in the area with the fear that their vehicles will breakdown,” he said.
He said the only few drivers who accept the challenge charge high fares, which sometimes cause displeasure among the passengers.
Mr Obeng therefore appealed to the District Chief Executive, Mr Tom Budu to expedite action for work to start on the roads to alleviate the plight of the inhabitants.
When contacted, Mr Budu said the Assembly is in the process of starting work on the roads in the coming months.
