More To Be Arrested Over Exam Leakage

An assistant Superintendent of Police, A.A Annor, has disclosed that there are other people involved in the leakage of some West African Examination Council (WAEC) Nov-Dec examination papers, which led to their cancellation recently. ASP Annor made this disclosure at an Accra Circuit court, where two men are standing trial in connection with the case. He therefore pleaded for more time from the presiding judge, Justice D.E.K Daketsey, to enable the police conduct further investigations to track down the said syndicate. According to him, some investigations conducted by the police revealed that the two accused persons, Francis Ahidome aka Yesuvi, a technician and Magnus Adima a.k.a Rock Feller, a teacher, are not the only people responsible for the crime and that there are other suspects who helped in the printing and distribution of the papers. He therefore prayed the court to remand the accused persons into police custody in order not to interfere with their further investigations. Although their counsel had assured the court that there were responsible people to stand sureties for the accused persons if they were granted bail, the court accepted the pleadings of the prosecution and ordered that the accused persons remain in custody till October 14, 2009. Francis Ahidome, a technician with Keat Investments Ghana Limited, a company contracted by WAEC to service their printing machine, allegedly stole this years Nov-Dec question papers of Integrated Science, English, Core and Elective Maths from the booklet-makes of the printing machine, copied and answered the questions, and gave them out to Magnus Adima, a teacher at the Adidome LA Primary who also wrote them on a separate sheet and labeled it J.H.S questions and sold them out to anxious students for an unknown fee. They have pleaded not guilty to 17 charges of illegal possession of the examination papers, conspiracy, stealing, leakage of examination papers and other related examination malpractices.Their action, according to the police, has caused WAEC to incur a loss of GH200,840 following the cancellation of the papers and suspension of the examination papers because they have to print new sets. The Deputy Director of Legal Service of WAEC, the complainant, on September 12,2009 during the conducting of Nov-Dec WASSCE English paper one, had information and exhibit which gave indications that the paper being written on that day had leaked. In view of this, he lodged a complaint at the CID Headquarters and investigations conducted by the police led to the arrest of a witness who had in possession, some of the question papers.Upon interrogation, the witness allegedly mentioned Adima as the one who gave him the papers. Adima, on September 17, 2009 was arrested at Adidome when he approached an undercover police woman in another attempt to sell some of the question papers to her and when questioned, Adima mentioned Ahidome as his supplier.
