The Presidential Candidate of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Mr. Ivor Kobina Greenstreet has endorsed the proposal by the Men’s Health foundation Ghana, a prostate cancer awareness charity submitted to the president of the republic of Ghana His Excellency John Dramani Mahama in 2015 to recognize the father’s day in Ghana as a national prostate cancer awareness day to help strengthen the fight against the disease in the country.

In an interview with Dangme News, a community based newspaper in the Dangme community located in Dodowa to outline his vision for the Dangme community.

When asked about his plans for men’s health in his manifesto and if he will recognize the father’s day as a national prostate cancer awareness day, he said “I will recognize the father’s day in Ghana as a national prostate cancer awareness day. Prostate cancer is a significant disease affecting
men in the country and we can no longer dodge the subject” he said.

Making references to sanitation day that has been given a national backing, he said the prostate cancer day should also be given a prominence to prevent late stage of the disease so that men can save money to look after their families.

He further said this recognition is only a form of preventive medicine and not curative medicine and it is better to prevent or invest money into preventive medicine than curative medicine.

Mr Greenstreet urged policy makers to strengthen up and wake up to help in the fight against the disease. He assured that men’s health issues would feature prominently in his manifesto just as women’s health has been on the issue in the country.

To this end, he appealed to men to massively vote for him come November general elections to enable him invest more resources into the health system in the country.

For some time now the Men’s Health Foundation Ghana under the leadership of Dr. Raphael Nyarkotey Obu , a prostate cancer policy maker , researcher and an orthomolecular Oncologist who is also the national president of the Alternative Medical Association of Ghana has being calling on the government to come out with a policy on men’s health in the country to help strengthen the fight against prostate cancer.
