Presidency Blocking Load-Shedding Timetable ECG Staff

Some disgruntled workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana have accused the presidency of preventing the power distributor from publishing a timetable for the erratic power situation in the country.

According to the irate staff, the seat of government has warned the management of ECG not to announce a timetable, even though it has long been prepared.

Speaking to Starr News, the chairman of the Takoradi branch of the Junior Staff Workers union of the ECG, Samuel Tetteh Agbetor, said the actions of the government is exposing them to undue attacks from the public.

“What is happening in the country is not any fault in the power system, it is power rationing going on but they don’t want to admit. When people get angry, they attack workers of the ECG. So we are pleading with the president to be honest with the situation and tell Ghanaians the truth. I know for a fact that the timetable for load shedding is ready but the president has blocked it,” he alleged.

Responding to the claims, deputy Power minister John Jinapor denied the existence of a timetable for the erratic power situation and assured that Ghanaians will soon see an improvement in power supply in the country.

“For the gentleman to accuse the President of lying, it is very unfortunate. However, we will give him the opportunity to prove that.

“...We don’t think we should burden people and go through the whole process of publishing a formal timetable. If there is the need for a timetable, we will not run away from it but we will not allow anybody to force that on us. The ECG is run by its management and nobody dictates to them. I can assure that the necessary measures have been taken and we will begin to see significant improvement in the power situation,” he said.
