Mahamas Mismanagement Bringing Back Eradicated Diseases Nana Konadu

The presidential nominee of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings has repeated her criticism of the Mahama led government and insisted that many eradicated diseases were returning to Ghana as a result of mismanagement.

Speaking at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) organised encounter with the political parties ahead of this year’s elections on Wednesday night, Nana Agyemang Rawlings claimed the health sector was collapsing.

As a result, she said diseases that had long been eradicated from the country such as ‘Yaws’ - [A chronic disfiguring and debilitating childhood infectious skin disease] was returning.

She said economic times were tough for most Ghanaians as a result of high taxes on goods and services and added that the gap between the rich and poor continues to increase.

“I refuse to sit back and say things are getting better particularly as we all can see that things are not getting any better. Infact, things are getting worse for us as a nation, neither is it just for a government to take up four years of our time, of our lives and reward us with economic mismanagement, it’s unacceptable.” In a response to a question on what an NDP government would do about the menace of illegal mining [galamsey] she accused government officials of encouraging the menance.

She said government officials were actively recruiting Chinese nationals to engage in illegal mining  in Ghana and insisted that was an indication the nation’s development was on a wrong path and needs to be halted.

She said government has been irresponsible in the management of the country and “we don’t need an irresponsible government.”  “About two years ago I had a discussion with a very senior policeman and he said do you know how many times we have arrested these galamsey people, the Chinese people, it is your government people who are bringing the Chinese people to come and dig for them.”

“So when you arrest them they call, they [government officials] call you to release them. When you have a government that is irresponsible, it’s very difficult to deal with galamsey, “she said.
