The Birim South District Assembly has placed fourth out of 26 municipal and district assemblies of the Eastern Region in the Local Government Service Performance Evaluation.

It also took the 21st position out of the 216 metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies evaluated in the country.

Mr Emmanuel Kwakye, the Birim South Municipal Chief Executive (DCE), disclosed this when the assembly held its Second Ordinary Meeting at Akim Swedru.

He congratulated the staff and the assembly members for their hard work to achieve the feat while urging them to do same in the coming years.

Mr Kwakye mentioned ongoing projects being undertaken by the assembly as four unit teachers’ bungalow at Ewisa, the DCE bungalow, a 20-seater vault chamber toilet facility at Akim Swedru Zongo, a three-unit classroom at Adiembra, all under the District Assembly Common Fund.

Concerning the water crisis in the area, he said the Chinese Government has approved a grant for construction of 15 boreholes in the district.

The DCE said the feeder roads at Beposo, Suhunya, Nkrankrom and Apoli have been reshaped and that areas like Akortikrom and Apoli-Agbo would have their turn in some few months to enhance cocoa farming.

Mr Kwakye said an Area Council Office has been completed at Achiase and a capacity building programme would be organised for the council members to equip them with the requisite skills to enable them to function effectively.

Mr Richmond Kofi Amponsah, the Presiding Member, said the assembly would ensure that the district was elevated to an appreciable level to the satisfaction of the people.
