Prez. Mahama Requested We Lift Ban For NDC Campaign Launch Chief

The lifting of the ban on drumming and noise making by the Ogua Traditional Council four days short of the planned date was upon a request by President John Dramani Mahama, Chairman, 2016 Afahye Planning Committee, Nana Kow Amoasi III has revealed.

The granting of the request, he added, was however subject to the performing of some rituals to appease the gods of the land.

“I am telling you that in our own wisdom we have decided to lift this ban on August 12 based on the President’s request made to us as Traditional Council including Akomfo, Asipifo representing the Asafo which is the oman and Nananom and not individuals. The President in his office as President of the Republic of Ghana came to meet the Afahye Planning Committee and we informed Nananom of the Ogua Traditional Council about the request he made from us. They also agreed but that is subject to the performing of some rituals and so the discussion is still ongoing for the rituals to be performed before the NDC can host their program”, he disclosed.

Nana Ekow Amoasi III made this revelation in an exclusive interview with Starr FM’s Bernard Nasara Saibu.

Nana Amoasi III’s reaction was in connection to the decision by the Ogua Traditional Council to lift the ban on drumming and noise making four days short of the scheduled date to pave the way for the campaign launch of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The 2016 Afahye Planning Committee Chairman commenting further told Saibu that the granting of the request to lift the ban earlier than the planned schedule date was not the first time in the history of the Ogua Traditional Council.

“This is not the first time. We perform some rites and grant such requests. There was once a football match victory by Dwarfs and they came to request to make noise and our Nananom granted the request. At another time, it was Panafest and Nananom also granted the request. So people should not take this one as being the first of its kind”, he noted.

The Ogua Traditional Council, in a statement dated Tuesday, August 9, 2016, announced the lifting of the ban on drumming and noise making. The ban on funeral, they added “is still in force”.

The decision, according to the traditional authorities, takes effect on Friday, August 12, 2016.

This is to pave the way for the campaign launch of the NDC two days later.
