Video Exposes Rapist

A 40-year-old trader, Kwabena Manu, who has been accused of defiling a 14-year-old girl at Bubiashie, a suburb of Accra, was exposed by a video recording of the act.

Manu was exposed by the video footage shot by a colleague of the victim after Manu had lured the poor girl into his kiosk and in the absence of his wife, defiled the victim.

Charged with defilement, Manu has pleaded not guilty and the court, presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong-Adjin, turned down his bail application and remanded him into police custody until August 23, 2016.

Prosecuting, Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbire said the complainant is a driver residing at Bubiashie while the accused also resides at the same vicinity.

He said on July 1, this year, the victim went to play with her colleagues at the accused person’s house. While she was there, Manu called her and informed her that her hair was bushy and that he was going to shave it off for her.

The victim, according to Detective Inspector Atimbire, obliged and Manu lured her into his kiosk which served as his sleeping place, defiled her on the floor and warned her not to inform anyone.

The following day, the prosecutor said, Manu repeated the act in the absence of his wife.

However, he said a 15-year-old colleague of the victim (name withheld) took video shots of the sexual act and showed it to her friend.

The video was shown to the complainant and he subsequently reported the matter to the police and a medical form was issued to the complainant to send the victim to the hospital while Manu was arrested.
