Charles Ashitey, 20, a cobbler, who is facing trial at a Tema Circuit Court for causing unlawful harm to a student, has been granted GH¢50,000 bail with two sureties, one of which must be a public servant.
The case was adjourned to September 12.
The court heard that Ashitey (alias Zaga) and Daniel Norteye, 19, a Junior High School student both lived at Tema Manhean.
On July 30, Norteye visited Ashitey who also doubles as a dance trainer, and decided to pass the night at his place. At about 4 am, Norteye, was awakened by a sharp pain in his neck and to his surprise, saw Ashitey with a knife trying to behead him.
Norteye struggled with Ashitey which resulted in further cuts on his right palm and abdomen, but he managed to escape with the knife and went to inform his aunt who rushed him to the Tema General Hospital.
Some of the neigbours who heard of the incident arrested Ashitey and handed him over to the police.
On visiting the kiosk in which Ashitey lived, the police saw a decomposing python, a horsetail smeared with white powder and blood, six flower spray and incense giving the appearance of a shrine.
Ashitey pleaded not guilty when he was put before the court.
