Judge Throws Konadus Case Out

An Accra High Court has thrown out Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings' suit challenging her disqualification by the Electoral Commission of Ghana on procedural grounds.

The flagbearer for the National Democratic Party (NDP) was disqualified after the Electoral Commission said she failed to collect the 432 signatures of qualified voters, a requirement of Regulation 7 (2) (b) of CI 94.

She therefore sent the case to court but was unfortunate to have the case struck out by Justice Goerge Koomson at the High Court.

According to the presiding judge, it is against procedures of court to file a joint application imploring the EC's decision to be reviewed and at the same time demand for the enforcement of the Presidential candidate's fundamental human right to vote and be voted for.

For this reason, the court fined the applicant an amount of GHC10,000 and described the suit as incompetent.
