Black Stars' Should Be Rebuilt After AFCON - JE Sarpong

Ex-Ebusua Dwarfs coach J.E. Sarpong, has emphatically called for the dissolution of the senior national team the Black Stars after they return from the 31st AFCON tournament in Gabon.

He believes the current Black Stars have nothing more to offer the people of Ghana.

Black Stars will be battling alongside, Mali, Egypt and Uganda in Group D of the AFCON.

Ghana will open their campaign against the Cranes of Uganda before playing Egypt and Mali. This showpiece also marks the second successive time Avram Grant will be leading Ghana to a major tournament since taking over the coaching job two seasons ago.

“The Black Stars must be rebounded in order to rebuild the team, I know some Ghanaians will insult me but I don’t really care. I have said it and that is what is ought to be done.

“We should pick local boys, especially our defence must come from our league, there are better defenders in our league and we must make use of them,” he said.

“If we claim our league is one of the best in Africa why don’t we have even two or more locally home-based players in our national team? The best player in our league Latif Blessing and best defender were all dropped from Avram Grant’s squad and we think we’re building a national team for the future?” He asked.

On the issue with regards to the Black Stars’ captaincy, JE Sarpong thinks, there is no leadership quality in the Stars'.

According to him, the Black Stars’ captain has not shown any quality that he is building or leading a squad that have the support of every Ghanaian and that everybody in the squad does anything without anybody’s authority.

“Everybody does anything without any control, Asamoah Gyan as a captain has not done anything that shows he is leading a troop to war. Everyone thinks he is professional, everyone has cars upon cars and respect nobody.

"Asamoah don’t really want to do anything that others will say he’s acting too strict. When Abedi Pele, C.K. Akonnor was the captain of the team you saw the discipline in camp, even recent captain Stephen Appiah, one see the command in camp,” he stressed.

Sarpong, is of the view that Asamoah Gyan don’t have that national command captain that made Abedi Pele the Pele of Ghana football.

Besides, apart from playing on the field Gyan doubles as a musician.

“I can’t really understand why a footballer will combine his career with music,” he asked.

Finally, JE Sarpong, mentioned that, Black Stars’ head coach Avram Grant has no regard for the technical head of the Football Association, Oti Akenteng as everything he does is a perfect example that shows he doesn’t regard him.
