Akufo-Addos Ministerial List 'Inspiring' Brenya

The ministerial appointees presented by President Nana Akufo-Addo is motivating, a political scientist at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Dr Edward Brenya, has said.

President Akufo-Addo has named former Finance Minister Yaw Osafo Maafo as his Senior Minister while announcing some 12 new ministers on Tuesday, January 10

Mr Akufo-Addo said the economy was a very pivotal aspect of the country’s governance and thus, “I’m trying to assemble the strongest team as possible” to handle that.

Commenting on the list of nominees in an interview with Emefa Apawu on Class FM’s 505, Dr Brenya said the qualification and skills of the ministers-designate are indicative of Mr Akufo-Addo’s strong will to turn the fortunes of the country’s economy.

“The list of course, many of them were predicted, it is very inspiring. When you look at the backgrounds of those nominated it tells you that Nana is more [concerned] about the economy.”

He said Mr Akufo in presenting the nominees “talked about their economic credentials and how they will bring that to bear on the different ministries that these individuals were appointed to”.

He indicated that Mr Akufo-Addo has been able to incorporate “gender [and] regionalism, blending senior experienced individuals with the youth so that they can work perfectly, and I think it is a very nice selection”.

He indicated that Dr Mathew Opoku-Prempeh’s appointment to the Education Ministry was surprising to him because “I thought he would head the Health Ministry” based on his background.

He was hopeful that generally the appointments would help prosecute the president’s agenda.
