Ghanaians Okay President's Choices

A cross-section of Ghanaians have endorsed the ministerial nominations made by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo to assist in utilising the natural and human resources of the nation for the prosperity of the people.

Many were of the view that Ghanaians need experienced people to run the affairs of the nation due to the current economic hardship.

“In this system of crisis, we need those who have studied and have the know- how in managing the economy,” Alexander Kyei, a telecoms engineer, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an opinion survey.

He explained that Mr Yaw Osafo Maafo, who had been designated as Senior Minster, and Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the Minister-designate for Trade, had the proven record of competence, which they earned in service under the Kufuor Administration.

Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, a co-founder of Data bank, and an investment banker is the Minster-Designate of Finance.

Mr Kyei stated: “Gloria Akuffo, the designated Attorney-General can deliver since she had served as a deputy Attorney General when the current president was the Attorney General”.

Others said that although they did not know the competence levels of the nominated ministers, they trusted the President’s choices.

Charles Boateng, a footballer, said that President Akufo-Addo knew their abilities and potentials and he did not think he would err by placing round pegs in square holes.

“Most of them have been deputies in the previous NPP Administration so they know what is ahead of them,” Patrick Kwofie said.

James Kofi Sam, a former seaman said: “I don’t think Nana Addo will make any wrong choices. If it were a bad choice, by now the opposition would have countered it”.

However, some of those interviewed, advocated the involvement of the youth in the Administration.

They said it would be reasonable for the youth to be given deputy ministerial portfolios to enable them to learn from the experienced hands so as to fill the gaps in their absence.

Some advised that all that the President promised should be implemented by his appointees because Ghanaians had placed much hope in their administration.

The President has so far nominated 25 persons, in two batches, to help him deliver on his mandate.

The first set of 13 was announced on Tuesday, while the other set of 12 was released on Wednesday.

The lists have been sent to Parliament for the vetting and the approval of the nominees.
