Parl Appointments Cttee Chair Has Conducted Himself Very Well - Fred Agbenyo

Chairman of the Parliamentary Appointments Committee, Hon. Joe Osei Owusu has come under criticisms for his stance during the ongoing vetting.

He is said to be "autocratic" in steering the vetting proceedings.

On Monday, 23rd January, the Chairman "ruled out" a member of the Committee and Tamale North MP, Alhassan Suhuyini from questioning the Minister-designate for Energy, Boakye Agyarko any further questions following heated arguments between the two.

One key person who has criticized the Committee Chairman is Franklin Cudjoe of IMANI Africa.

He took to his Facebook wall and wrote; "It was rather disappointing that the chairman of the vetting committee had exercised his autocratic powers yet in preventing Alhassan Suhuyini from asking a question which the nominee minister would have confidently dealt with.”

Commenting on the issue on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', the Deputy Communications Director of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fred Agbenyo thinks otherwise.

Fred Agbenyo believes the "Chairman has conducted himself very well", adding that though "occasionally, you see that he comes as if he’s trying to be protective of the nominees but of course, every Chairman would want to do a thing like that."

The worrying thing to him is the way the members comport themselves during the vetting.

"I am not too sure that sometimes they forget that there are microphones in front of them. Someone might be talking, though the person has switched off the microphone, he or she says something that maybe wasn’t intended to be picked by the microphone but it’s picked up by another person’s microphone and it comes out," he told sit-in host Nana Yaw Kesse.

Mr. Agbenyo therefore advised the legislators to conduct themselves well, particularly with their microphone techniques; saying "if they can pay attention to that, it will help them".
