Choose Canada To Further Your Educational Interests - Madam Cameron

Madam Heather Cameron, the High Commissioner of Canada, has called on parents and students to consider carefully the educational opportunities available in Canada before choosing a destination for further studies.
She said certain decisions like one’s education, need not be made in haste and called on parents, guardians and students to assess the extent of the opportunities available for them as they make their final decision.

Speaking at the Edu-Canada Fair 2017, held on Tuesday at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra, Madam Cameron said the Fair comprised representatives of seven pre-tertiary schools, eleven colleges and 13 universities who “have travelled over 10,000 kilometers to explain how they can help you attain your goals”.
In 2015, she said, 26,000 Sub Saharan students were offered opportunities to study in Canada and 1400 students from Ghana were part of that number.

Madam Cameron said over the years, some alumni came back and were serving as useful ambassadors of Canada in the country whiles others chose to remain there to pursue post-graduation job opportunities. She said 2017 was a special year for both countries as Ghana celebrates its 60th independence anniversary and Canada celebrates its 150th anniversary, and choosing to study in Canada would guide, equip and provide the individual with the best opportunity to develop his or her potential.

Mrs Kathleen Afful, the Assistant Commissioner in charge of Education, said the 32 Canadian educational institutions participating in the event were among others seeking to highlight the various choices available for students including: short career-focused programmes, work and study programmes; and practical programmes designed in collaboration with potential employers. She said at the elementary and secondary section, the Fair was also sought to portray Canada’s excellent student-teacher ratio, and the integrated cultural, social and sporting activities instituted to enrich the learning experience of the student.

Mrs Afful said though the Edu-Canada Fair 2017 was just a day’s event, it was the beginning of the process for interested applicants who should visit: www.cic.gc.ca/english/study, to acquaint yourselves with the application process and for those interested in scholarship programmes, visit: www.scholarships.gc.ca .
