Two brothers were yesterday jailed 10 years each in hard labour by the Accra Circuit Court “One” for facilitating the robbery of a forex bureau owner.
The convicts, Hamza Salou, an errand boy to the victim and Mohammed Salou, a labourer, who all lived at Kasoa in the Central Region provided information to armed robbers who shot and robbed the businessman, Allahadu Abdul Kadir, of GH¢390,000.00 from Adabraka in Accra.
Allahadu Kadir had withdrawn the money to transact business with a client who needed US$100,000.00 cash.
The two brothers were found out by itemised calls received from MTN that proved that Hamza communicated with the robbers 110 times, whilst his brother Mohammed made 152 calls on May 1, 2016, and May 17, 2016 prior to the robbery. The prosecutor, Chief Superintendent Duuti Tuaruka, said, that the convicts further made 24 calls to the criminals on May 17, 2016, the day of the robbery.
Though they denied the offence, the court presided by Mr. Aboagye Tandoh, said that, the prosecution had been able to prove the guilt of the convicts beyond all reasonable doubts, and commended the investigator for conducting an exhaustive investigation and doing satisfactory job on the case.
He said that the court had found them guilty of abetment hence their conviction and sentencing to 10 years in prison to serve as a lesson to people who get the opportunity to work but abuse it by colluding with criminals to rob their employers.
The armed robbers namely, Shaibu Ibrahim who is already serving 27 years jail term and his accomplice, Kwesi alias Man Latif (on the run) attacked the victim on May 17, 2016, and shot at his left leg four times and snatched his bag containing GH¢390,000 from him.
But they could not enjoy their booty when a police officer engaged them in a shootout and one of them, Shaibu Ibrahim, was hit in the stomach by a bullet.
He was captured and a pistol and one ammunition including the cash were retrieved from him, but his accomplice escaped on an unregistered Honda 650 motorbike which they used to cross the forex bureau operator who was on his way to transact business with a customer.
