The Deputy Minister for Energy, Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has called on members of the Ghana Association of Science Teachers (GAST) to train competent minds and hands to handle the emerging oil industry in Ghana. He assured them of government's support to collaborate effectively with all relevant institutions and stakeholders to make sure that the oil find served a better national purpose. Mr. Buah in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said the period of exploration, discovery and drilling of oil in Ghana is seen by many as exciting times for the science teacher who should endeavour to announce his presence. He urged the association to come out with useful recommendations on good oil policies for government to implement. The Deputy Minister said government had pledged to invest the oil revenue in infrastructural development, general and technical education, rural development and institute a future generation fund among others. He said under the phase 1 of the jubilee project, about 120,000 barrels of oil will be available and 120,000 million standard cubits feet of dry gas per day will be produced in 2010. Production will be increased to 240,000 million standard cubit feet of gas per day under the phase 2 of the jubilee field project expected to commence in 2013 Mr. Buah gave the assurance that the technical appraisals conducted by experts indicated that the jubilee field contains expected recoverable reserves of about 800 million barrels of light crude oil with an upside potential of about 3 billion barrels.
