Young Cadres Congratulate John Mahama For Winning African Political Leader Of The Year Award

It is with much excitement and pride that we, the leadership of the Young Cadres Association (YCA) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on behalf of the entire membership, congratulate President John Dramani Mahama for winning the covetous African Political Leader of the Year 2016 award.

The special award bestowed on His Excellency by the African Leadership magazine is in recognition of “his contribution towards deepening and enriching Ghana’s democracy and his towering status as one of Africa’s best” according to the organizers of the awards ceremony. The awards celebrate exemplary leadership and individuals who have contributed to shaping the global perception of the African continent.

For us, this is not only an endorsement of the humungous achievements of President Mahama whilst in office, but a clear demonstration of the fact that President Mahama’s unique and selfless leadership has set a standard for political office holders on the whole continent. Like Kwame Nkrumah, President Mahama’s legacy would be much appreciated by posterity.

His unprecedented investments in education, health and other infrastructural projects will outlive our time and show the future generation how progressive President was. Though Ghanaians failed to endorse your second term, Africa has opened its arms wide to receive your wisdom and advice. Such a poignant way to demonstrate a biblical truth – a prophet is not recognized in his own city!

Barely two months after leaving office, Ex-President Mahama’s exploits have demonstrated clearly that his contributions to the development of Ghana and the progress of the African continent would not be swept under the carpet. The phenomenal attention and interest shown in Ex-President Mahama and his work could not have been gained if he had been sleeping on the job. His case becomes even more special when one looks at it from the standpoint where, in Africa, most leaders are either shamelessly booted out of office or they simply refuse to leave power when their time is up and entrench themselves in power through brutal force.

And even those who willingly leave, they are haunted by their corrupt deeds whilst they were in power. But President Mahama is different; he moves about freely with a huge air of dignity around him knowing fully well that he did a good job and distinguished himself creditably.

President Mahama, without doubt, is simply the most hotly sought-after former political personality in Africa at the moment. From speaking engagements in Kenya to receiving awards in South Africa, the last two months have shown that African ex-Presidents could still be relevant in the developmental discourse on the continent.

We the youth of this country still believe in your leadership and your philosophy and even though you have declined to contest political office again in Ghana, we are more than convinced that you would impart your useful lessons learnt through experience unto the future leadership of this country and the African continent as a whole.

You are a star unto the continent, and your light will never be dimmed by any deliberate attempt to reduce the significance of your legacy.

Long Live YCA
Long Live NDC
Long Live Ghana
