4 Robbers Arrested At New Dahwenya

Four armed robbers, who allegedly attacked a home at New Dahwenya, in Greater Accra, on Friday dawn and stole GHC40,000 and personal effects of the occupants, have been arrested by the Tema regional police command.

They are Mohammed Elliasu, 24, Awudu Zakaria alias Wadudu, 24, a butcher, Bismark Owusu a.k.a Nerro, 28, and a photographer and a driver’s mate Emmanuel Amanor, a.k.a yellow, 20.

The personal effects they stole included four mobile phones, 11 wristwatches and wedding rings.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Tema Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Juliana Obeng, briefing the media, said the police acted upon a distress call at 1:30 am.

She said the robbers wielding a pump action gun, a cutter and other offensive weapons scaled the wall of the house, and broke the door with cement blocks to have access to the rooms of their victims.

ASP Obeng said luck eluded them and Elliasu, Zakaria and Owusu were arrested by the Police patrol team before they could leave the scene with their booty.

She said Amanor had left the scene with the weapon used in the robbery, but was also arrested later at his hideout in Ashaiman.

According to ASP Obeng, items retrieved from the suspects included a jack knife, dried leaves, suspected to be Indian hemp, three live BB ammunition, an axe and a screw driver.

The police also found on them GHC18,000,a bunch of car keys, five mobile phones, a torchlight, three wristwatches and a cutter.

ASP Obeng said the suspects are in police custody assisting in investigation.

There was drama at the Tema Regional Police Command on Friday afternoon when Elliasu shed tears and pleaded for mercy.
